 A Global City-State

A Global City-State

Singapore is a small island nation in Southeast Asia, located between Malaysia and Indonesia. It began as a British trading settlement in 1819 and later became part of Malaysia in 1963 before gaining full independence in 1965.

Since then, Singapore has developed into a highly prosperous and internationally connected country, supported by its strategic location, strong economy, and one of the world’s busiest ports.

Covering approximately 744.3 square kilometers, Singapore has a tropical climate characterized by hot, humid weather, frequent rainfall, and two main monsoon seasons.

English, Mandarin, Malay, and Tamil are its four official languages, reflecting the country’s multicultural population. Singapore is also home to diverse religious communities, including Buddhists, Muslims, Christians, Taoists, and Hindus, while literacy rates remain very high.

History of Falcone Piano

 History of Falcone Piano

Falcone Pianos was founded in 1982 by Santi Falcone, a piano technician originally from Sicily. He established the company in Woburn, Massachusetts, to produce high-quality pianos at affordable prices. Falcone Pianos became particularly renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship and innovative features. Key specifications included rims made of hard rock maple, soundboards crafted from white spruce, and various high-quality action components.

History of Falcone Piano

Despite its early success and high standards of quality, the company faced financial difficulties and was sold to Bernard Greer in 1989. The Falcone brand subsequently became associated with the Mason & Hamlin organization. Later, Falcone pianos were manufactured in China by the Nanjing Moutrie Piano Company.

Falcone pianos are admired for their robust construction, excellent tonal quality, and historical significance. Although production of Falcone pianos eventually ceased, the instruments continue to attract interest from collectors and musicians because of their distinctive characteristics, craftsmanship, and reputation.

Reading Books Helps You Live Longer

Reading Books Helps You Live Longer

Reading books is a beneficial habit, and many successful people are passionate about reading to develop their abilities, expand their knowledge, and entertain themselves during their free time.

Here are five reasons why you should read books:

1. Reading Books May Help You Live Longer

According to a study by Yale University, people who enjoy reading books may live longer than those who do not read. The study found that regular book readers lived nearly two years longer, possibly because reading helps people better understand the feelings of those around them and manage their own emotions.

Compared with people who did not read books, regular book readers were found to have a life expectancy approximately 23 months longer. However, the effect was much less significant among people who mainly read newspapers and magazines.

2. Reading Printed Books Can Help You Absorb More Knowledge Than Electronic Books

In addition, technology research has shown that students may absorb and retain more information when reading printed books than when reading on electronic screens. One reason is that students can easily underline, highlight, make notes, and annotate printed materials.

For example, a study in Norway found that students who read texts on paper performed better on reading comprehension tests than students who read the same material on electronic devices.

3. Reading Helps Develop Skills for the Future

Evidence also suggests that growing up in an environment surrounded by books can provide significant benefits for educational achievement. One study found that people who grew up with a library at home developed stronger skills in literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving, among others.

These skills can be especially valuable for young people living in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. For example, the World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report has highlighted the growing importance of soft skills. Reading books can help people develop many of these valuable skills.

4. Reading Helps You Learn More Difficult Words

Reading books not only influences our emotions and improves our understanding of the people around us; it can also strengthen our vocabulary and language skills.

According to a report from Oxford University, evidence shows that reading aloud, discussing what has been read, and having independent reading experiences at school and at home can help people develop a larger vocabulary.

The more you read, the more opportunities you have to encounter unfamiliar and sophisticated words and understand how they are used in context.

5. Reading May Help Protect Your Brain Against Memory Loss

Finally, exercising the brain can help reduce the risk of cognitive decline and memory loss. According to explanations from the Alzheimer's Society, learning new things and challenging your brain can help keep it active.

Activities such as reading books regularly provide mental stimulation and may help strengthen the brain's ability to cope with cognitive decline and other age-related conditions.

In conclusion, reading is not only a source of knowledge and entertainment. It can also contribute to better language skills, stronger thinking abilities, and a healthier, more active mind. Making reading a regular habit can be a valuable investment in your future.

Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC)

Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC)

The Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC), commonly known as Sala Techno, is one of Cambodia's oldest public higher education institutions. It specializes in engineering, science, and technology education and is located on Russian Federation Boulevard in Tuol Kork District, Phnom Penh.

Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC)

Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC)

The institute was constructed in 1962 by the Cambodian Construction Company under the supervision of Cambodian and Soviet engineers. Techno School was officially inaugurated on September 20, 1964, under the presidency of King Norodom Sihanouk.

Between 1964 and 1975, the institute trained a large number of professionals in engineering and technical fields to meet the country's development needs. However, during the Khmer Rouge regime (1975–1979), the institute was closed, and all educational activities were completely suspended. Following the fall of the Khmer Rouge, the institute reopened in 1980 with support from the Soviet Union. During this period, engineering and technical education was restored to help rebuild the country after years of war.

In 1993, the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Government of France signed an agreement to rehabilitate and further develop the institution. It was officially renamed the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (Institut de Technologie du Cambodge – ITC), a name it continues to use today.

For more than 60 years, the Institute of Technology of Cambodia has educated thousands of engineers and technical professionals who have made, and continue to make, valuable contributions to Cambodia's economic and social development.

Today, the institute offers doctoral programs in engineering, master's degrees in engineering, engineering degrees, and associate engineering degrees. It continues to strengthen the quality of its education, research, and innovation by enhancing academic excellence, human resources, infrastructure, laboratories, and physical facilities. These efforts are aimed at meeting the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) and promoting a competitive and highly efficient digital economy.

History of Independence Monument

History of Independence Monument

Every year on November 9, Cambodia celebrates its Independence Day with great pomp and ceremony at the Independence Monument under the high presidency of His Majesty the King of Cambodia, Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, together with the participation of senior leaders of the Senate, the National Assembly, and the Royal Government, as well as representatives from various ministries and institutions.

A large number of citizens, students, youth groups, and Red Cross youth members also attend the celebration at the Independence Monument.

The Independence Monument was built to commemorate Cambodia’s independence from France on November 9, 1953, to honor those who sacrificed their lives for the nation, and to symbolize the country’s freedom and sovereignty. The monument was constructed in 1958 during the reign of King Norodom Suramarit (1955–1960), while Prince Norodom Sihanouk was serving as Head of State. The Independence Monument was officially inaugurated on November 9, 1962, by Prince Norodom Sihanouk.

History of Independence Monument

Formerly known as the Independence Memorial, the Independence Monument stands prominently at the center of the roundabout where Norodom Boulevard and Sihanouk Boulevard intersect in the heart of Phnom Penh.

The monument was designed by renowned Cambodian architect Vann Molyvann and built by Toeng Voeuth, a skilled bricklayer and sculptor from Battambang Province. Standing 37 meters high and consisting of five tiers, the monument is inspired by the lotus-shaped towers of Angkorian architecture. It is adorned with 100 naga (serpent) heads, reflecting the distinctive artistic style of Angkor Wat.

In later years, the Phnom Penh Capital Administration renovated and enhanced the monument and its surroundings, adding colorful nighttime illumination and beautifully landscaped gardens around the fountain to make the site more attractive to visitors.

Today, the Independence Monument Park is also a popular recreational area for residents and visitors. Many people come to walk, jog, exercise, and play sports, particularly in the eastern section of the park. In addition to physical activities, visitors often gather there to relax and take a photograph of the iconic landmark and its scenic surroundings.

Roup Pi - French Memorial Statue

Roup Pi - French Memorial Statue

In 1916, under the leadership of Joseph Joffre, Cambodians aged 16 and older were recruited into the French army to take part in World War I. These Khmer soldiers were sent to fight in Europe as part of France’s war effort.

To honor their sacrifice, the French colonial administration later constructed a monument known as the War Memorial, dedicated to the Khmer-French soldiers who lost their lives during the war.

However, during the Khmer Rouge regime, the monument was heavily damaged after being bombed by revolutionary forces. Much of it was destroyed, while some surviving fragments were preserved at the National Museum of Cambodia.

Years later, following discussions between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and French President Emmanuel Macron, the memorial was reconstructed to reinforce the historical ties and friendship between Cambodia and France.

The restoration took place at its original site within the garden in front of the French Embassy in Phnom Penh, designed by architect Dr. Ly Rasmey, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration. Care was taken to preserve the monument’s original design.

The rebuilt memorial was officially inaugurated on July 14, 2023, under the presidency of Hun Sen and other dignitaries, marking a renewed tribute to the Khmer-French soldiers who sacrificed their lives.

Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya (RPVV), also known as the School of Brilliants, is one of the best government schools in Delhi. Many Delhi toppers come from this prestigious school. The studies here are very hard, but they are excellent for building a strong career. The school principal treats this school like his own home and works with full dedication for the students’ success.

The teachers of RPVV are highly qualified, experienced, and very friendly. They teach in creative and interesting ways, which helps students understand better. Students feel confident to talk to teachers and freely ask their doubts. This is not just a school; it feels like a temple of knowledge where teachers are like guiding gods.

This school is a golden opportunity for talented students who come from poor families and face financial problems. RPVV is specially made for them, where their dreams can truly come true. It is a place where future leaders are prepared to take responsibility on their shoulders. Students work very hard to achieve success.

RPVV provides excellent facilities such as science labs, computer labs, and other resources that help students reach their goals. The campus is full of greenery with many plants and trees, creating a peaceful environment for study.

I am proud to say that I had the opportunity to visit Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya. I was deeply impressed by the discipline, learning environment, and dedication of both teachers and students. RPVV is not a simple government school; it is truly one of the finest schools in Delhi. In the end, I would like to say that a school is the first step of our life, and RPVV makes that step strong, meaningful, and full of possibilities.
