Tad Fane – The Spectacular Twin Waterfall

Tad Fane – The Spectacular Twin Waterfall

Tad Fane Waterfall originates from the Bang Lieng and Chib rivers and is located in Lak 38 Village, Group 3, Paksong District, Champasak Province. It lies about 12 kilometers east of Paksong town. This area is a high plateau featuring numerous large and small forests, as well as a beautiful waterfall, making it an attractive tourist destination for both domestic and international visitors.

Tad Fane – The Spectacular Twin Waterfall

Tad Fane is situated about 1 kilometer south of Lak 38 Village and is easily accessible by vehicle. It is one of the tallest waterfalls in the area, with water plunging approximately 120 meters, and features two separate rivers — Bang Lieng and Chib — that fall into the same basin. Around Tad Fane, there are coffee and banana plantations owned by residents.

The name “Tad Fane” (“Fane Waterfall”) comes from a local story: In the past, wild animals were abundant in the area, especially wild deer (“fane” in Lao), which were more numerous than other species. They roamed in search of food and played along the Bang Lieng and Chib rivers near the head of the waterfall. One day, during heavy rainfall, the river current became strong, but the deer continued crossing. Unaware of the danger, one deer was swept over the waterfall, struck the rocks, and died there. Since that day, the people of Lak 38 Village (formerly Phak Kut Kaew Singh Kham Village) have been calling it “Tad Fane,” a name that has remained to this day.
