A large historic border marker from the French colonial era, which once marked the division of territory between Cambodia and Laos, still stands today. This marker is located near the Trapeang Kriel border checkpoint along National Road No. 7. It was constructed during the French colonial period, around the year 1904, when France returned Stung Treng Province to Cambodia from Laos.
If you travel from Stung Treng Province along National Road No. 7 toward the Trapeang Kriel international border checkpoint, after approximately 70 kilometers, you will see a large border marker from the colonial era on the right-hand side of the road, about 7 meters from the highway. One side of the marker is inscribed with the word "Cambodia" and the other side with "Laos," marking the territorial division between the two countries.
It is worth noting that Cambodia and Laos share a total border length of approximately 540 kilometers, of which 335 kilometers is land border and 205 kilometers is water border —according to https://www.khmertimeskh.com. Cambodia has three provinces bordering Laos: Preah Vihear, Stung Treng, and Ratanakiri.
