The historical and cultural site of Chetiya Khun Chang Khun Phaen in Koh Kong Province is a sacred destination where tourists come to pray for happiness and fulfill their wishes.
This stupa, standing over 4 meters high, is located on a rocky outcrop. It is not only revered by locals but also attracts visitors from other provinces, particularly those who wish to offer prayers while passing through Koh Kong Province.
The site is situated in Neang Kok Village, Pak Khlong Commune, Mondul Seima District, Koh Kong Province—about 4 kilometers from Khemarak Phoumin City and only 650 meters from Koh Kong Bridge, which connects the estuary from east to west.
Tourists traveling from Khemarak Phoumin City to the Khmer-Thai Cham Yeam International Border will cross the Koh Kong Bridge. Upon reaching the middle of the bridge, look to the left, and you will see a stupa with a sharp peak rising from the middle of the bay—this is the Khun Chang Khun Phaen Stupa. It is located about 117 meters from the western side of the estuary. To visit the stupa, tourists must walk along a concrete bridge that stretches across the sea. Along the bridge, the gentle sea breeze and the view of mangrove trees lining the shore create a refreshing and picturesque atmosphere that is truly worth admiring.
The Chetiya of Khun Chang Khun Phaen is tied to a legend involving a tragic love triangle. It tells the story of Khun Chang, a wealthy man, and Khun Phaen, a military commander, who were both in love with a woman named Phim. The emotional conflict led to Phim’s death. To honor her, Khun Chang built a stupa on the west side of the estuary to bury her remains as a symbol of his love. He also planted a "soul flag" on the east side of the estuary to encourage her spirit’s rebirth.
