Buddha Park in Vientiane, Laos

Buddha Park in Vientiane, Laos

The Buddha Park, also known as Wat Xieng Khuan, is located about 25 kilometers southeast of Vientiane, the capital of Laos.

Inside the park, there are over 200 sculptures that blend Hindu and Buddhist religious themes.

All of the statues are made from concrete and brick, and have been crafted and decorated to appear as though they are centuries old. In reality, however, the Buddha Park was constructed in 1958 by Luang Pu Bunleua Sulilat (a priest-shaman).

The park features sculptures of humans, Buddhas, deities, animals, and demons. One particularly notable sculpture resembles a giant pumpkin, representing the three levels of existence: hell, earth, and heaven. Visitors can climb to the top of this giant pumpkin to get a panoramic view of the entire park.

Another remarkable and grand sculpture is a 40-meter-long reclining Buddha, which is one of the main attractions located in the center of the park.

At the end of the park near the banks of the Mekong River, there is a restaurant and a cafĂ©, which are great places to relax after walking and sightseeing in the park. Tourists can sit there, enjoy refreshing drinks and cold Lao beer, and taste a variety of famous Lao dishes, all while enjoying a gentle breeze—creating a delightful and unforgettable experience.
